How it started

The story behind the movement

Rooted in uplifting veterans through green-job skills

This program is near and dear to our hearts — it ties back to the roots of We Want Green Too. We started as an organization focused on uplifting veterans through education and training in home energy efficiency and green-job skills. Over the years we’ve sourced funding, developed our own implementation process, and served many individuals in their pursuit of purpose.

Our latest effort is a workforce-development cooperative titled “Detroit Energy Efficiency Workforce Training,” run with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). We were awarded a short-term grant to enroll 20 residents in training for the Building Analyst Technician and Professional certifications — plus retention and job-placement services. The State of Michigan recognizes the growing need for these professionals, and this grant is one way it’s helping fill the gap.
